Ancient Rhetorics


"In dialectical reasoning, the arguers are less certain about the truth of the premises; here the premises are accepted by people who are supposed to be especially wise. For example, Socrates' dictum that 'The unexamined life is not worth living' is a dialectical premise, as is Jesus's teaching that human beings ought to love each other."
