Funny, because so many of my classes are in sync with each other. We just got done discussing invective and encomium arguments in my English class and this past Monday in my Women Studies course, I saw the most excellent invective example--A speaker degrading and breaking down the very meaning of what our society calls a "Man." It wasn't in the sense that he was trying deface 'Man' or insult the actual gender. His point was how society has built this image of everything a man doesn't need to be. Little boys grow up with posters of WWF wrestling stars and think they need to be just as big, muscular, and intimidating as the ACTORS. They think they need to showboat their toughness or run around with cap guns to let their testicles drop. The requirements of being the Male Sex is being born with a penis, and not with any hermaphrodite exceptions either.
I can't think of the Speakers Name, but basically he was defacing this hormone, creatine injected image most society's develop. We need to stop tricking easily influenced children that this is what the standard is.
I wonder if that made sense. A visual example of Superheros, maybe:
1960's American Apparel Batman.
2008 Stainless Steal Batman
1960's Figurine
Present day.
See what I'm sayin'? a little?
